Blog: Generation Gap

It’s unavoidable. It’s here and always will be there for generations to come. Personal equations and even organisations can benefit from it. Diversity in ideas, thoughts, opinions, cultures, norms and attitudes can bring about unique experiences. New angles take shape. Traditions go a long way indeed but then some may oppose and give fresh insights. Sticking to age-old viewpoints gives rise to conflicts, anxiety, distance and unbearable disconnection. Relationships may suffer and evolve simultaneously.

Transfer of knowledge can bring about a change if addressed in an effective manner. Hostility kills beauty. A good understanding of things is a must. It is not important to follow everything that has been laid out on the table by elders or youngsters but a good listening bridges gaps most of the time. Acceptance and adaptability are keys in having a friendly environment. Pushing to extremes in a negative manner can marr the progressive nature of anything that has the potential to fetch desired results.

Generational differences are bound to create tensions within families and corporate places. Stereotypes are preferred more. One may get stuck in a rut and the void widens. Wisdom, maturity and experience mentor sour ties. Exposure can transform set guidelines or routines. Growth happens when we look at things and beliefs in a broader perspective. It can’t happen overnight. Communication, strategy and tact ease dark irreversible situations and mindsets.

Giving space plays a very important role in making ends meet. It’s exemplary if both parties are sailing in the same boat but one should also respect the other’s approach on differences too. There should be room for improvement, opportunities and overall development. Old habits die hard but forging new ones by putting the best foot forward strengthens faith and positivity. Misunderstandings die naturally if they are cleared in time. Delays may worsen associations. Buildup of anger can’t be ruled out then. Overlooking certain aspects relieves.

Sometimes deferring issues also gives time to introspect and aid in effectual decisions. When we recognize and address needs then a stronger bond evolves and involvement is much higher. When we support preferences, connections bloom to deeper levels. Jumping the gun doesn’t help. Patience and perseverance simplify the state of affairs. Isolation, reduction in interactions, strained relationships and irritation are common when people fail to understand the other generation. Survival under one roof looks impossible. The more we indulge and learn the better it gets.
