Book Review: Friend Request by Laura Marshall

Maria Weston, who was assumed dead years ago sends a friend request to Louise on Facebook. This jolts the protagonist of the book as memories flood her mind. The guilt trip of bullying almost chokes her whenever she gets messages after accepting the request. Hidden secrets and wrong doings come to light and this makes the plot intriguing as well as scary to the hilt. Maria arranges for a reunion of the class of 1989 and Louise is also invited. The harrowing dangers of social media have been showcased in a terrifying way. Sam, Louise Williams’ ex-husband, helps her decode the puzzle. It’s a psychological thriller that throws light on friendship, revenge, secrets, betrayal, motherhood, love, playing favourites, loss, depression, trauma, mystery and so much more.

Laura Marshall from Wiltshire, United Kingdom has penned it in a way that one is hooked till the very end. It’s a page turner that doesn’t disappoint rather adds new twists to the spooky tale. The debut novel delves deep into fear, shame and guilt that haunt Louise every minute of her life. This had happened 25 years ago but somehow she still struggles in spite of being a doting single mother to her son Henry. There are very interesting moments where one is literally on the edge of the seat as the plot progresses. It is full of suspense and there is a lot to learn from it.
