Book Review: Not Quite Dead Yet by Holly Jackson

The life of a 27-year-old Jet Mason comes tumbling down when she is murdered but survives the attack. A time bomb is ticking as her doctor shared that within 7 days she will be dead because of the consequences of the brutal attack. The head injury pushes the protagonist to solve her own murder. Billy Finney, her once best friend, aids and supports her willingly to tie the loose ends. The story is full of twists, intrigue, entertainment, horrific revelations, family related expectations and satire. JJ, her ex-boyfriend is the prime suspect but as the plot progresses there is an interesting chain of events that complicate things further. Jet’s brother Luke is very protective about his sister but Sophia, his wife, feels that Jet hates her for some unknown reason.
Holly Jackson, the British author has spun a thriller that makes one keep turning the page. The characters have a history that unravels beautifully as the storyline thickens. Betrayal, love, guilt, anger, anxiety, sadness, immaturity, hatred, dread, revenge, sibling rivalry, unconditional support, expectations, protectiveness, laughter, subdued passion and light romance define this murder mystery. It’s a gripping tale with some mesmerising moments. One can take cues and make notes if aspiring to be a better person.
